Trauma is not just an event that took place sometime in the past; it is also the imprint left by that experience on mind, brain and body.

Ancestral Roots Reiki (ARR) was founded as a practice motivated to promote mental wellness and healing by treating the whole person: mind, body, and spirit. We treat several mental health problems through a strengths-based, trauma-informed, and culturally guided lens. 

We recognize trauma as a root cause of many mental and emotional health struggles. We also recognize the way it can be carried through family lineages. Sometimes we are literally healing ancestral roots.

Our bodies maintain a state of homeostasis, or balance. Our stress response system is designed to detect stress, respond, and return to balance. When stress is overwhelming or ongoing, our body may not be able to process it or return to balance at all. This can manifest as mental health and physical health symptoms. This is trauma. And yes, difficulty navigating stress can be passed down generationally. Whether it's through inheriting a similar "stress response system" or developing the same maladaptive coping patterns, trauma is often passed through lineages. And that's a lot to carry with your own individual experiences.

Traumatic experiences can impact our mind through our emotions and thoughts, our body through physical sensations, and our spirit through disconnection from self and others.
